“What Does it Mean to be a Man?” Re:LIFE Today #008 – Ed Kang

Part of the “Man-Up” Series.

Big shout out to JB King for putting in this request! What kind of society would we have if every guy “manned-up” and not only took responsibility for themselves and others, but was willing to fight for it too? There are just way too many men going “down” these days for one reason or another. I am pretty passionate about this subject and have created a whole series on it. Ever seen the movie Fight Club? Here is a quote:

I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. …an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables – slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy [stuff] we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars, but we won’t. We’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.

Let’s turn from the Gap to Life when it comes to being a man! We can change the world if we do!

Good start Ed. Now I just have the question of what does that taking responsbility look like? What are the keys to seeing that the responsbility is being handled properly? For example, the fact that I’m alive and not in a hospital doesn’t imply that I’m taking responsbility for my physical health. However, how much is there to do full take responsbility here? I’m sure I could take other examples in my life but I’ll try to stay simple and just get this one rolling for now.
